According to a study by the Center for Creative Leadership and Clark University, “Being a committed parent can enhance managerial ability.” How is this possible?
The study found that:
- Raising children develops skills that can be useful at work.
- Balancing and being able to manage the demands of children and running a household actually can help people better manage stress on the job.
- Positive family experiences can carry over into the workplace and facilitate performance.
- Family experiences can also improve the ability to see things from other’s viewpoints.
The study was able to show that life outside of work is important and can actually help you improve your work performance and can also enhance psychological well-being. The article also stresses that “regular exercise and effective leadership go hand-in-hand.” Interestingly, “leaders who exercise regularly were rated significantly higher by their bosses, peers and direct reports on their leadership effectiveness than the non-exercisers.”
I agree with the article that a healthy and balanced lifestyle is definitely important to our overall well-being. Take a look at the full article and try thinking about ways to increase your leadership effectiveness by using those terrific parenting skills.
You can do it!
